Roles

In reality, characters are more than a role, so don't get stuck with that. This here is a collection of typical roles that are found in many of the Tribes populating the Land.

Chief/Leader/Lord/Lady/Headman/Spokesman/Mayor/Governor

Most Tribes, even those who are ruled by a council of sorts, have a single leader, a person nominated to lead negotiations with outsiders and to act as a judge when someone is charged with a crime. Some leaders have more power, leading by an iron fist, some have hereditary possession of the leadership, some are elected. Some have a military leader serving them, some are also spiritual leaders, some merely figureheads.

Captain/Sheriff/Warden/Constable/Marshall/Sergeant/Commander
Usually the military leader of the Tribe, experienced in battle. Some are more intelligent and tactical leaders, some tend to lead by example and bring death to their opponents in the front-lines.

Priest/Shaman/Councilor/Witch/Pastor/Bishop/Holy Man/Preacher/Templar
Different sorts of spiritual advisers are common in the Tribes. They might only carry the responsibility of rituals and spiritual welfare, some might be political leaders as well. Some might be only interested in the Faith, setting an example by their own life and ignoring any leadership responsibilities. Some might be pacifist, some very warlike.

Technojunkie/Mechanic/Scavenger/Technician/Pilgrim Priest/Gift-bearer
Many tribes have people who are still able to repair and utilize technology, the Gifts of Goddess Europa.  These people are usually rich and respected, and considered eccentric because of their esoteric knowledge and skills. Few are Pilgrims who have decided to stay in wealthy settlements near harvestable Ruins. Some take more skill resource oriented approach, some tend to be more Devouted.

Crafter
Smiths, carpenters, hideworkers, ropemakers, coopers, brewers. Respected among the Tribes because of their skills and usually comfortably wealthy. Many have hordes of apprentices and the highly skilled ones make a good living by selling their goods to the Traders.

Doctor/Healer/Witch/Wise Man/Wise Woman/Surgeon/Nurse/Sawbone
Most Tribes value greatly any individual with healing skills. Some are self-learned, some taught by the few healers who survived from the Time before the End. Some utilize and even manufacture Old Age medicine, some are skilled herbalists.

Trader/Merchant/Mercantyler/Shopkeeper/Bargainer
Many tribes have specialist traders and negotiators to deal with the caravans and Trader families. They also travel to nearest tribes when trading of resources are necessary. Many traders are required to give some of their profit to the community in exchange for the right to sell their goods.

Warrior/Soldier/Brave/Guard/Mercenary
Some Tribes have permanent warriors who are responsible for the defense of the tribe. Many also protect Traders, both Tribal and Independent ones, patrol the tribal regions and aid the hunting parties. Some are of the Tribe, some are hired from the ranks of outsiders.

Hunter/Gatherer/Fisher/Tribesman/Tribeswoman/Farmer
Your everyday Tribals. None are alike the other.

OUTSIDERS :

Pilgrim
Pilgrims are the Keepers of the Goddess, speakers of the secret Aikean language. They wander the wilderness, searching for the Ruins of the Creators, retrieving relics of the Old Ages. They have enormous wealth and will use it to obtain more of the Sacred Relics.

Trader
Traders travel from place to place, buying and selling. Some travel as a family or a small group, some form large caravans and can obtain large quantities of goods that are unavailable from smaller trader groups. Many traders are also entertainers and pay for their keep by putting up a show, which is followed by a day of haggling and trading. All the Traders follow a certain code, that is hard for others to understand, but dictates many aspects of their lives.

Mercenary
Hired warriors, working for food, a place to sleep and sometimes larger rewards as well. Often treated as spies, and never really welcomed, but when they are needed, they are needed. Some are ruffians, some are proud professionals, some are just people who make their living by the only trade they know.

Bogatyr
Adventurers in their purest sense, Bogatyrs are an oddity. Travelling alone or in really small groups, they offer their aid to those in need and never ask for reward, though it is usually given as the legend says the Bogatyr's will not aid those who disrespect them. They usually prefer hand-to-hand combat against natural threats and even when facing marauders or warmongers, they usually try issuing a fighting challenge, one against one, before resorting to no rules warfare. Heroes of the Age.

Devout
Many religious people wander the Land, alone and in small groups. They search for gods, spirits, faith, truth, whatever. Many consider this to be a holy vocation and thus Tribes tend to feed them and give them the care they need. Those tribals who are especially Devouted to religion or spiritualism are also called Devouts.

Muto
Mutants. Increasing amount of people are born with different skin color, abnormal bodies and sometimes even useful abilities like toughened skin, radiation tolerance etc. They are called Muto's. Some think they are alright, some think they are a curse from the Old Gods. Some even prefer muto's over humans as they are better suited to harsh life. Some live with the Tribes, some as small families or groups in the wilderness, some as hermits.

Wanderer
Some people just like wandering around. They come and go, usually paying for their upkeep by oddjobs and whatever skills they have if they run out of things to trade. Not so much trusted as tolerated.

Warmonger
Warmongers live and die by the sword. They follow their Warlords to the battle and if they survive, to the next one. They have varying amounts skill-sets in addition to warfare, but those skills tend to be used in the company of their fellow warmongers instead of the Tribals they are enslaving/blackmailing/otherwise using.
